downer

We had the flu in our house and I haven't been the same since. I just want to sit on the couch and watch tv. I don't want to see or talk to anyone, much less DO anything. It's not good.
Mind you, it was over a week ago, but I just can't snap out of that sluggish feeling. The house is a mess, there's no plan for dinner, and my poor kids haven't had much mommy time lately. I tried working out yesterday, thinking that would help get me back to my normal self, and it ended up making me feel sick again. ALL. DAY. Thank goodness, I'm not throwing up anymore, but I'm left feeling a little down, I guess. In need of some inspiration.

So I'll let these beautiful pictures do the talking. These have each inspired me in the past, for one reason or another. There's no correlation between them. Just beauty that spoke to me. Please take time to really LOOK at them. Don't just close the window and move on to the next thing. Really look at them and let them inspire YOU.

And, do tell, what helps lift your spirit when YOU'RE feeling down?

  1. Gorgeous photos. Really. When I don't feel good and need a kick in the pants to get going again I start cleaning out closets. It always makes me feel like myself and is much more productive (in more ways than one) to my other standby of eating oreo's and surfing the internet. Hope you feel better soon!

  2. yes, i've been doing a lot of the eating oreos and surfing the internet. NOT productive, and NOT helping the matter.

  3. I know the feeling. Sorry. Sometimes I just have to give up for the day. I don't try to accomplish ANYTHING. Instead, the kids and I sit down with fun snacks and watch a movie. They think its so fun and such a treat that they're in really good moods and excited about everything, and that's contagious! OH, you could also try coming up here and visiting us! The kids and I would love to take you guys ice skating and sledding...we have fresh snow!

  4. ha! yeah, i actually did the movie thing too, sare! we had a movie DAY. brad was at work and it was snowing, so after i picked the boys up from music class, we went to macey's, got 3 (yes 3) movies from the redbox and some popcorn and candy, and just relaxed the rest of the day away. and, we would love to come see you. why is it so hard for us to make it up there!?

  5. Sorry you're feeling down Care . . . I hate that. I just came out of a rather long funk, myself. I'll tell you, one thing that really lifted my spirits, was that the sun came out. And when I say it came out, I mean it came out in all it's typical Texas glory . . . it was 80 degrees here yesterday (Claire ran around in her bathing suit ALL day.)! The other thing I did was to FINALLY get some much needed sleep . . . it sure can work wonders. :) I hope you feel better soon . . . wish I could grab your kids for awhile and let you do something just for YOU! (Beautiful images, by the way . . . thanks for sharing!)

  6. ooh, that would be nice! i LOVE warm weather and it's been freezing here. snowing! it's beautiful, but i hate leaving the house in this weather. thanks for the advice though. last night was a better night in the sleep department. i slept well and today, for the first time, i'm feeling a little more productive. i got some cleaning done, did some school with colse, and we have a furniture project in the works. so i think sleeping really does do wonders. i'm planning to go to bed a little earlier tonight, too,

  7. I tried commenting 3 times and figured I should stop in case they were all going to show up! Well, looks like none of them worked.

When I feel down I usually have to have some alone time and my activity of choice is reading. Getting lost in a good book can always lift your spirits! Also, treats are good :) I would suggest frozen yogurt but since it sounds like its cold there you should go get some caramel apple spice cider from Starbucks! I agree with you guys too, sleep can usually cure all things! Hope you're feeling better now!

  8. Sorry about the 'downers'...I hate days like those. Sometimes on days like those I will sneak out after the kids go to bed (with Mike home of course) and jam to my favorite pandora stations in the car, sing loudly (I'm sure I look like a crazy person:) go get a sonic drink and peruse through Target. Or during the day I do something to lighten my mood like steam roll Lily on the trampoline till she's super giggly and it makes me feel better. I hope you feel better soon! love you!!!!

  9. this is cracking me up because i have tried every single one of the suggestions from these comments! (tare, i drank some hot chocolate yesterday and savored every last drop.) i guess i needed to do them ALL, because i'm finally starting to feel back to normal. caroline, actually some alone time is the only one i didn't get to do (which would probably be the most helpful) but it's been on my mind the last couple of days and i'm thinking that maybe tomorrow i'll ask brad if i can just sneak away for an hour, to be alone. he goes back to work the next day, so i BETTER feel good by then or i'm in trouble. thank you, EVERYONE, for your suggestions!
